How the Ethiopian Securities Exchange works
The Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) is Ethiopia's organized securities exchange. It held its grand launch on 10 Jan 2025, when Wegagen Bank (WGBX) became the first listed equity. Government securities were first listed and trading began on 11 Jul 2025.
Trading hours
On trading days ESX runs a pre-open session from 09:00 to 09:30 and continuous trading from 09:30 to 15:00, Addis Ababa time. ESX publishes its closing days on its trading and operations page.
How to buy or sell
Investors trade through a licensed ESX member, not directly with the exchange. ESX lists its trading members and explains the steps on its investor guide. This site does not take orders or give advice.
Who regulates it
Ethiopia's capital markets are regulated by the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA). Giving investment advice for a fee needs an ECMA licence, which is one reason this site sticks to published facts.
